Progress is possible even for older & extremely picky eaters

At 10 years old Ruby* ate pasta, one type of cracker, butter, tomato sauce, sausages and one type of bread roll from a specific bakery and nothing much else. She would not even try sweets or chocolate, for example.

Her mother Andrea* got in touch with me to explain what happened over the course of a year when she put her focus and energy into supporting Ruby.

She is also happy for me to share their story (anonymised) as Andrea understands how worrying, stressful and frustrating it is to have a child who can’t eat a range of foods and seems to get worse rather than better as time goes on.

Ruby’s difficulties at social gatherings also became a concern for both of them (they had always been a challenge for mum, navigating family gatherings etc. but as Ruby got older she also realised how restrictive eating challenges can be).

However, do not skip reading if your child is younger and/or not as extreme in their eating challenges as Ruby, as much of the advice could still be really useful.

What Ruby’s mum Andrea has to say may also surprise you!

Andrea bought our first book Creating Confident Eaters and used it to support Ruby around her eating. The dedication, tenacity and hope she has brought to the challenge makes me tear up. I also feel as though mum was able to reach inside of my head…
